Discover the best places to eat dessert in Gulf Shores. Live it up – you’re on vacation!
When you think about the best places to eat in Gulf Shores, you’re probably imagining plump pink shrimp and juicy oysters you slurp out of the shell.
That’s fair: It’s a beach town and the seafood there is world-class.
But for those of us with a sweet tooth, I’ve got to tell you that Gulf Shores has some yummy-fun desserts you don’t want to miss!
Judging the Best Desserts in Gulf Shores
I traveled to Gulf Shores to be a dessert judge for the World Food Championships. I didn’t go to culinary school. I never won a baking contest. But I’ve been known to hoard Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies and eye the dessert menu at restaurants first (hey, you have to know if you need to save room for something good!).
So, let’s just say that I felt like I had been training for this job my whole life! (Also, I received instruction on how to judge. That way, I knew what to look for in a winning dish.)
Top Places to Eat Sweet Treats in Gulf Shores
I spent a week eating and drinking my way around the Gulf Coast. Trust me when I say that these are the desserts that make Gulf Shores the sweetest spot in Alabama:
Epic milkshakes at The Yard Milkshake Bar
Is there anything better than a milkshake on a hot, sunny day? Nope, especially when it looks almost too good to eat.
At The Yard Milkshake Bar, they put together the most amazing milkshakes you’ve ever seen. Seriously, your eyeballs are going to pop when you see their milkshakes.
I ordered a unicorn concoction, which was made with things like marshmallow creme, Nerds, cotton candy, diabetes and all the children’s fantasies. I guarantee that a picture of you sipping one of these crazy milkshakes is going to be your most popular Instagram post.
Creative lattes at Southern Grind
You’re about to step into the cutest little coffee shop slash boutique. First, there are the dessert lattes – order an indulgent flavor like vanilla lavender or Milky Way – and if you’re hungry, don’t be afraid to go for that mean meatloaf sammie.
Then take your time sipping your cup of joe while you peruse the beachy items in the shop or take it with you to ride the nearby Ferris Wheel with ocean views.
Addictive beignet fries at the Flora-Bama Yacht Club
Have you heard of a beignet (pronounced ben-yay)? It’s a doughy piece of heaven sprinkled with powdered sugar and most famously served in New Orleans. But down in Gulf Shores, they’ve given it a twist.
Paddleboard right up to this beachside eatery to order beignet fries. They’re crunchy on the outside (because they’re fried, thank you very much!) and creamy on the inside. The bonus? They come with a white-chocolate-ganache dipping sauce and a side of live music on the weekends.
Frosty bushwhackers at the Flora-Bama Lounge
Get your mind out of the gutter! A bushwhacker isn’t a sexy bedroom move. It’s a creamy frozen drink that originated in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Somehow it became the Gulf Coast’s signature drink.
This alcoholic milkshake is strong and thick and made with five types of liquor. The best place to sip it on a hot summer night is at this honky-tonk that straddles the Florida-Alabama border.
A Gulf Shores Vacation
Are you imagining yourself in a pair of shorts and flip flops, sipping a bushwacker next to the beach or diving into a basket of beignet fries? Sounds like you need a trip to Gulf Shores, girl!
